A Better Way to Give Back
Coffee is one of the most traded commodities on our
planet, but even with all the money traffic involved, there is a major sector
of this business that is left with very little to show for their efforts.
While we agree that Fair Trade practices make a difference, we also see the
unfortunate capitalization in greed's own version of fair trade.
Coffee farms in Ethiopia, such as the one pictured
here, are still completely operated using hand-picked and hand-processed
methods throughout the production phases. Very few machines are used in Ethiopia,
and, due to the cost of chemicals, all of the farms there grow solely organic
beans.
Ethiopia is believed to be the original home of coffee
trees, and produce some of the finest Arabica beans in the world. Unfortunately,
Ethiopian coffee farmers are among the least rewarded for their efforts.
Therefore, at BB Joe we wanted to find a better way to
get a fair cut into the growers' hands. We think we've done that right off
